Overview
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear – Ontario. The Nuclear subsector supports clients in the nuclear industry with services including technical and feasibility studies, project management, detailed design, procurement, site management, quality surveillance, commissioning and asset management. The team is involved in nuclear refurbishments, nuclear new builds and related capital projects.
Join our expanding team across Canada to tackle complex nuclear projects from concept to detailed engineering. You will lead projects in a senior technical role, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet mechanical engineering objectives and support in the nuclear sector to address challenges and implement power grid systems of the future.
Travel may be required to Tiverton, ON; Toronto, ON; Saint John, NB; Pickering, ON; Oshawa, ON.

What you can expect to do here:
- Lead the design of mechanical piping and equipment for nuclear power generation facilities
- Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, codes and standards to projects
- Perform high-complexity engineering design work including analysis, calculations, research and equipment selection
- Develop P&IDs for power plant systems including steam cycles, boiler feed, condensate, water treatment, fuel gas, hydrogen and utilities
- Prepare sizing calculations and specifications for major equipment (e.g., heat recovery steam generators, condensers, cooling towers, tanks, blowers and pumps)
- Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems
- Check design deliverables against industry codes, standards, contract requirements and company standards
- Coordinate with drafters, designers and engineers; review work progress and results
- Provide technical mentoring and/or oversight
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- University Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering design experience within the EPCM environment, ideally focused on nuclear facilities
- Current professional engineer (P.Eng, Ing, PE) license in your province
- Experience in a consulting environment desired
- Experience with nuclear or power plant projects desired
- Proven experience as a senior mechanical expert in front of clients with ability to lead and mentor others
- Working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD
- Working knowledge of SmartPlant 3D or CADWorx
- Experience using Caesar II or AutoPIPE
- Experience using Thermoflow
- Must be able to pass Security Clearance
