We are seeking a Senior Mine Water Engineer to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals. The Senior Mine Water Engineer will integrate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to provide technical support and senior review related to mine water management planning, design, permitting, implementation, and monitoring across Canada and internationally. They will directly support the growth of the Canada Mine Water Resources Team by developing relationships with national and international mining sector clients, leading and contributing to the preparation of proposals, developing and communicating AtkinsRéalis promotional material (particularly in relation to innovation), as well as mentoring junior and intermediate members of the team.

Your role within the team:


  • Provide technical leadership and senior review of mine water management scopes and deliverables to ensure they align with AtkinsRéalis Quality Management Systems, applicable regulations, Regional Professional Associations guidelines, and client expectations.
  • Develop relationships with mining sector clients, regulators, and representatives of First Nations through meetings, attendance/presentations at conferences, and contributing to marketing materials to highlight AtkinsRéalis capabilities and successful delivery of innovative solutions.
  • Support the development of new AtkinsRéalis services lines relating to mine water management, progressive reclamation strategies, as well as strategies to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate against and/or adapt to the impacts of climate change.
  • Leverage experience in and knowledge of mine water planning, permitting, engagement, implementation, monitoring, and compliance with relevant/emerging regulations to develop innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions that support sustainable and resilient recovery of critical metals and minerals.
  • Lead and contribute to the pursuit of mine water opportunities of varying scales and in collaboration with AtkinsRéalis subject matter experts located throughout Canada and abroad.
  • Provide leadership support at a project and team level including mentoring junior and intermediate members of the team and identifying/championing high-potential candidates for opportunities that will extend/expand their skill sets.
  • Lead and support engagement with client subject matter experts to collaboratively develop/refine mine water solutions through meetings and workshops focused on comparing conceptual options, identifying and mitigating risks, and reviewing design deliverables.

The ideal candidate:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or equivalent. A Master’s degree in Engineering or related field is considered an asset.
  • 15+ years of experience in water resources engineering, with a focus on mine water management, hydrology, water quality and water treatment.
  • Relevant professional designation (P.Geo., P.Eng.) or eligibility status in Canada. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is an asset, particularly for engaging with multilingual teams and international projects.
  • Demonstrate strong writing skills and abilities by succinctly conveying recommendations, ideas, and insights in reports, presentation materials, client proposals, and other written communications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate effective teamwork in multidisciplinary teams across various offices in Canada, ensuring cohesive project delivery.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $116,000 – $160,300 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
