This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to joinYoung Minds Matter. The successful post holder will work alongside the AlliedHealth Professional Lead to set up the Occupational Therapy provision acrossall teams that currently sit under the service.

Main duties of the job

This is a new and excitingopportunity for an Occupational Therapist to work within our CAMHS services(Young Mind Matter).

This role will allow theOccupational Therapist to work with Children and Young People with a range ofconditions, including but not exclusive off anxiety, depression and eatingdisorders.

The role will exploreestablishing an Occupational Therapy pathway, using the Occupational TherapyProcess to identify appropriate assessment, intervention and evaluation for thearea.

Job responsibilities

Communication &relationship skills

Utilise highly developedcommunication skills to conduct functional assessments of service users.Communicate complex information related to an individuals mental health needs,outcomes and recommendations from assessments to service user, carer, relativesand other professionals.

Effectively communicatecomplex and/or sensitive information where there are barriers to understanding.This includes communication concerning adult protection, abuse, cognitiveimpairment and other risks surrounding a clients mental health.

Maintain and developeffective communications and working relationships within the team and withexternal agencies, contributing to decisions with regard to service usertherapy plans by reporting back on the outcome of OT assessments andinterventions.

Build and develop aTherapeutic relationship with service users and their carers.

Manage confidentialinformation in respect of members of the public in accordance with local andnational policy (GDPR)

Act as the lead professionalwhere the main intervention is Occupational Therapy.

Promote the OccupationalTherapy role through regular participation in meetings, presentations andfeedback of clinical activities.

Knowledge, training andexperience

The post-holder will holdcurrent registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as anOccupational Therapist

Have specialist knowledge andtraining, gained through formal and post registration experience and/ortraining, relating to mental health and apply this knowledge when deliveringcare to service users.

Have skills and experience indeveloping and facilitating training to staff and students.

Provide advice, training andsupport to other agencies around issues relating to mental health.

Maintain and develop aContinuing Professional Development portfolio to demonstrate ongoing learningand professional competence.

Participate and contribute tolocal OT forums and networks.

Work within the carerdevelopment framework for Occupational Therapy focusing on the four interactingpillars of practice. These being: Professional Practice, facilitation ofLearning, Leadership and Evidence, Research and development.

Analytical & judgementskills

Make decisions about therange of Occupational Therapyinterventions and therapy plans based on clinical judgement of a serviceusers need.

Conduct comprehensiveassessments of both service users and carers in line with team operationalpolicies.

Analyse service usersoccupational performance areas and adapt interventions as required in order tomaximise and maintain service users skills and function.

Formulate detailedassessments to inform the decision making regarding service users ongoingneeds.

Planning & organisationalskills

Plan and coordinateOccupational Therapy care plans for both individuals and groups according totheir identified occupational needs. Coordinate transfer or referral of serviceusers to other teams or services where required.

Prioritise, plan andcoordinate own workload and activities in line with the changing needs of theteam and service. This includes planning and monitoring service useroccupational needs and presentation, conducting assessments, ensuring patientrecords are up to date and supporting colleagues on a daily basis.

Participate in caseloadmanagement audits and ensure relevant information is available for this to takeplace.

Physical skills

To undertake training inRESPECT techniques and undertake regular updates.

To perform moving andhandling techniques as advised by moving and handling risk assessments.

To educate and develop themoving and handling techniques of others.

Responsibilities forpatient/client care

Undertake OT assessments withservice users using standardised and non-standardised OT assessment tools, toidentify and address occupational performance and skill deficits.

Assess and review serviceusers clinical risk management plan using the service's current riskassessment and OT risk assessment tools.

Collaborate with serviceusers/carers to identify OT goals as part of the overall care plan.

Plan and implement individualand/or group interventions, in collaboration with the service user, usinggraded activity and person centred principles to achieve therapeutic goals.

Identify the needs of carersand refer for a carers assessments when appropriate and work collaborativelywith other professionals/agencies to develop support and educational activitiesfor carers.

Participate in clinicalgovernance activities.

Person Specification

Additional Requirements

  • Excellent time management skills, organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and to manage own and other workloads efficiently.
  • Independently mobile i.e. drive and able to travel across Navigo.
  • Ability to competently use a computer, including email, word and excel..

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.
  • Expert knowledge of Child Care legislation, Safeguarding, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Excellent knowledge of current local and national strategies concerning CAMHS, Childrens Services and mental health.
  • Excellent understanding of child and adolescent development and its possible impact on emotional well-being.

Experience

  • Relevant post-registration experience of working with people with mental health needs, including those with an eating disorder.
  • 3 years post-registration experience (with a minimum of 2 years in a mental health setting).
  • Knowledge of a range of theories and models underpinning Occupational Therapy clinical practice.
  • An awareness of sensory integration and or training in sensory awareness .
  • Experience of managing and developing staff including providing management and/or clinical supervision.
  • Experience of building links with stakeholders and other organisations.
  • An awareness of sensory integration and or training in sensory awareness .

Qualifications

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professionals council.
  • Recognised Professional Qualification in:
  • Occupational Therapy.
  • Qualification or training specific to the management of eating disorders and their comorbidities.
  • Mentorship or similar qualification in supporting students in practice.
  • Post registration training in supervision.
