Mobiltex is looking for a Software Development Director to oversee our development team. As a software development manager, your primary responsibilities are to oversee software development teams and to act as a liaison between your teams and senior management. You hire and train new staff, manage and evaluate existing developers, provide guidance on the design and implementation of new software applications, and ensure that projects stay on schedule and within budget. You collaborate with upper-level management, product managers/owners and your developers to make sure that new and existing software applications meet business objectives.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervise and delegate duties to the development team
- Hire and onboard new developers, with ability to attract, retain, grow and manage senior ICs in addition to early to mid-career ICs. E.g., Architects, Principal Engineers, etc. with lots of experience
- Be able to recommend future organizational needs (roles, numbers of people, structure) to achieve new or changing business/strategic objectives that are software-related and forecast and meet budgets needed.
- Establish development standards for the team
- Track project progress metrics
- Achieve project release delivery goals
- Be proactive in identifying technical and schedule risks to management in a timely manner
- Deliver reports and proposals to upper management
- Write progress reports and deliver presentations to the other relevant stakeholders.
- Create a budget and timeline for the software development projects
- Be transparent with the team about challenges, failures, and success
- Ability to develop multiple projects/products/teams concurrently (e.g., 2 to 5 products and the teams that build them)
- Adopt agile methodology and other industry standard development processes where appropriate
- Manage QA/Test, UX/Design, DevOps/Cloud Ops and work with product owners to prioritize and integrate tech debt countermeasures into development schedules
- Analyze existing operations and schedule training sessions and meetings to discuss improvements
- Ensure knowledge transfer across team to avoid singular resource risks
- Work with senior management to develop and maintain metrics for team and individual team member performance
- Perform continuous improvement of the development process through application of meaningful OKRs
- Interact with all software teams to ensure knowledge flow as necessary
- Define and enforce software development cybersecurity best practices by development teams
- Contribute to other special projects as needed
- Be up to date with industry trends and developments
- Be up to date with current best practice software development processes through documented personal development plan
