<p><b>Why this role is important?</b></p>
<p>Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the <b>Inventory Specialist (A)QPIC</b> is responsible for inventory management and supports procurement, with a focus on narcotics, controlled drugs and targeted substances for Central Pharmacy Services located in Mississauga. They are responsible for developing and implementing inventory management policies, processes and procedures based on industry standards for narcotics, controlled drugs and targeted substances as per Health Canada and pharmacy regulations. They will analyze and monitor purchase and inventory trends to ensure service levels goals, actively seek opportunities for improvements and enable standardization across all operations.</p>
<h3>Job Description</h3>
<ul>
<li>Acts as Inventory Management process owner and actively supports projects/initiatives that impact Inventory Management focused on narcotics, controlled drugs and targeted medications (NCTM).</li>
<li>Ensure timely submissions (Monthly Activities Reports, annual reports) and communications with the Office of Controlled Substances (OCS).</li>
<li>Guide other A/QPICs and ensure effective execution of responsibilities.</li>
<li>Perform regular inventory counts along with daily reconciliations for NCTM products.</li>
<li>Investigate and document any discrepancies during product handling of Controlled Substances.</li>
<li>Maintain documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures and Health Canada requirements for Controlled Substances.</li>
<li>Responsible for implementation of inventory management system and supporting maintenance.</li>
<li>Monitors and analyzes purchase and inventory trends, inventory investment and returns revenue to ensure service level and other key performance indicators are achieved.</li>
<li>Maintains the relationship with Inventory and Procurement teams to provide effective communication of changes to purchase habits as well as resolutions to product shortages, damages, long-term unavailability and discontinued items.</li>
<li>Reviews clinical and operations initiatives to resolve inventory needs, considering current on-hand inventory and lead times to ensure Central Pharmacy Services can complete initiatives.</li>
<li>Actively seeks opportunities for improvement within Inventory Management to meet performance, quality and financial targets.</li>
<li>Partners with operational site and other teams to ensure effective resolution of all inventory related issues.</li>
<li>Maintain proper storage of medications within the pharmacy according to 5S principles.</li>
<li>Ensure stock bottles are put away according to established workflow.</li>
<li>Maintain perpetual inventory system.</li>
<li>Manage customer returns and expired products by disposal protocol (e.g. Stericycle One Box).</li>
<li>Prioritize recalls and immediately isolate product; quarantine until details of the recall are provided.</li>
<li>Management of preferred generic product (e.g. DSP).</li>
<li>Monitor and maintain MMS by performing daily inventory tasks like holding tanks, updating UPCs, applying suggested orders.</li>
<li>Maintain Overstock to ensure the uninterrupted supply of all products.</li>
<li>Work closely with the Pharmacists to prepare store communications for product availability updates.</li>
<li>Track and communicate low stock and out of stock situations according to pharmacy procedures.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Other responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Ensure narcotic inventory is detail received and records updated under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.</li>
<li>Unpack and receive pharmacy totes inside pharmacy in a secure environment.</li>
<li>Put away received pharmacy inventory in appropriate location in accordance with established workflow.</li>
<li>Perform cycle counts and ensure stock rotation is completed and expired product is removed from the shelf and returned in accordance with standard operating procedures.</li>
<li>Carry out daily inventory tasks, including placing orders, maintaining MSLs, receiving orders, and investigating discrepancies.</li>
<li>Order and maintain non-prescription merchandise in the dispensary, including stock rotation and management of expired product.</li>
</ul>
<h3>What you will need</h3>
<ul>
<li>Experience with handling and managing Controlled Substances under a Licensed Dealer.</li>
<li>3-5 years’ experience in Pharmacy inventory management.</li>
<li>Qualified to be A/QPIC per Health Canada's regulations.</li>
<li>At least two (2) years of experience using MMS is strongly preferred.</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal skills to source information, obtain approvals, build relationships, and influence outcomes.</li>
<li>Creative problem solver with ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.</li>
<li>High attention to detail and ability to adapt to multiple priorities.</li>
<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li>
<li>Exceptional time management and problem-solving skills.</li>
<li>Understanding of pharmaceutical/healthcare industry is preferred.</li>
</ul>
<p>This role requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts during the business hours, including weekends and statutory holidays.</p>
