Structural Engineer – Senior / Intermediate

About this role

Our Structural Team seeks a Senior or Intermediate Structural Engineer to join the growing team in the Toronto West office. The successful individual will develop and manage projects for new construction or modification of existing transportation, water & wastewater, commercial, industrial, power, and institutional buildings & structures, ensuring conformance with building codes. Responsibilities include professional-level foundation & structural and seismic analysis, building and structural inspections. The scope ranges from minor renovations to major projects, with collaboration among engineers, BIM modelers, and design disciplines across Arcadis offices worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead the structural analysis and design of structures and prepare drawings and specifications


• Carry out seismic analysis, seismic design, and seismic performance assessment


• Coordinate with other design disciplines (Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical, etc.)


• Attend meetings and prepare presentations when required


• Prepare bid documentation for project pursuits


• Conduct periodic site reviews to ensure construction complies with design intent and codes


• Review and respond to submittals (RFIs, shop drawings, etc.) during the CA phase of projects


• Provide direction to and work with engineering and CAD staff


• Provide peer reviews of other engineer’s work


• Mentor junior engineers


• Perform QA/QC activities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s in Structural Engineering is an asset


• Minimum 6 years relevant experience in structural design


• Registered P. Eng in Ontario Province; registration in other provinces is an asset


• Knowledge of Canadian design standards and codes


• Knowledge of U.S. codes and standards is an asset


• Ability to lead teams of multiple engineers and CAD staff


• Proficiency in structural design software such as ETABS, SAFE, Robot, SAP2000


• Experience with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam expected


• Knowledge of 3D BIM (Revit & Navisworks) is an asset


• Strong project management and coordination skills with a collaborative attitude


• Ability to confidently relate with all levels of staff and clientele—internal and external


• Excellent work ethic and desire to succeed


• Effective communication in English (verbal and written)
