    General contractor seeking experienced Superintendent for the construction phase of hospital project in Vancouver, focused initially on operating rooms. Ideal candidate will have experience on projects from $100m+, MEP expertise is an asset.

    Job Summary
    You’re a Superintendent with field operations experience working in multi-disciplinary commercial and residential construction projects. You will be responsible for enforcing company and project policies, they are the main client interface, and ensure projects are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule through subordinate managers and supervisors. This position works closely with the executive team and provides leadership in field operations. For you, safety and quality are a priority and you are able to effectively delegate work to field staff, contractors, and subcontractors.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide overall construction management, including design, budget and schedule, in conjunction with the Project Manager, Owners, Engineers and Architects to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget on large complex projects
    • Lead project meetings with internal and external parties to monitor and support the team’s ongoing progression
    • Mentor project team members to ensure career growth and development
    • Advise senior management of potential problems, work interferences and schedule difficulties while assisting in resolving conflicts
    • Be jointly responsible to monitor, interpret and forecast a project’s cost reports ensuring they are in line with the estimate and maintain a positive cash flow
    • Comply with and effectively implement company Safety Program to ensure safety and environmental standards are met or exceeded
    • Ensure project construction is completed in compliance with the construction schedule, control budget and contract documents
    • Execute work in accordance with Contract documents, sub-contracts/agreements, plans, specifications and shop drawings including coordination and execution of changes to the work
    • Responsible for temporary worker hiring decisions in conjunction with Project Manager and direct, manage and promote productivity of employees on the job site (including trade contractors, suppliers, assistants and hourly employees) required to construct the project in accordance with the contracts, plans and specifications
    • Prepare the weekly production schedules and look ahead
    • Ensure appropriate action is taken in cases where contracts, plans and specifications are inadequate or contravene good building practice in conjunction with Project Manager
    • Review and enforce the trade contracts, scopes of work for discrepancies with project requirements
    • Review drawings for dimensional errors, construction detailing, constructability, economy and long-term durability in conjunction with the Project Manager
    • Review the budget and the underlying estimate to understand what assumptions were made and what conditions have been set in conjunction with the Project Manager
    • Coordinate inspections with civic authority and other authorities with jurisdiction for routine and occupancy-related inspections
    • Attend, chair and document regularly scheduled trade meetings; maintain liaison with client and architect contacts to facilitate construction activities in accordance with Safety Program and Quality Management Program
    • Work collaboratively and conduct effective meetings with other departments, project staff, owners, architects, subcontractors, sharing knowledge and experience to meet the client’s objectives efficiently and effectively
    • May be responsible in overseeing one or more teams/projects that are at multiple sites or large complex projects; fostering strong teamwork orientation

    Requirements

    • You have a construction related degree and 6 to 8 years of construction experience or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience working on Healthcare/Hospital Projects
    • You have an advanced knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control and engineering drawings.
    • You have the ability to quickly identify problem situations, evaluate alternative causes, produce workable solutions and lead a large team to successful completion
    • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes
    • Solid understanding of current construction practices
    • Ability to guide safe work practices in a high pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget
    • Working knowledge of construction documents, contracts, costs, and budgets
    • Working knowledge of scheduling and project management
    • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders needs, and identify solutions
    • Capable of identifying constructability issues in moderately complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule
    • Skilled at promoting teamwork with project team and stakeholders
    • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
    • Ability to use Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with scheduling software
    • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Building Technology, or Construction Management
    • Red Seal Carpenter (Journeyman) Certificate a strong asset
    • Gold Seal accreditation an asset
