Position: Technical Writer

Department: Product Development

The Technical Writer is responsible for researching, writing, editing, and revising all user documentation of great scope and advanced technical complexity to a target audience in a clear and concise manner.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Develops source materials, consults technical staff, and co-ordinates the preparation of required illustration materials.
  • Designs user materials and documentation.
  • Proactively participates on project teams to contribute to overall product development.
  • Working from design documents and hands-on product experience to research, write, and verify product information and operations procedures.
  • Write content for online help files, procedural and policy manuals, user guides, proposals, technical reports and instructional materials that explain installation, operation, and maintenance of software and/or hardware.
  • Rewrite and edit drafts for accuracy.
  • Required to create glossary, index or cross-reference information within Word.
  • Schedule activities to meet delivery dates and commitments.


Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in Communications/Technical Writing.
  • 3+ years of related documentation experience in a technical capacity.
  • Experience with Word, Flare, and Photoshop required.
  • Experience with SmartDraw and Sharepoint an asset.
  • Excellent grammar and the ability to express ideas clearly in writing.
  • Practical writing and design layout experience.
  • Takes a methodical approach to explaining processes and procedures
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with a variety of people.
  • Good organizational, time management and project management skills.
