About us:

Kids Kottage Foundation, established in 1995, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children when families encounter a crisis and need help to cope with and overcome their challenges.


The Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care, typically 1-3 days period, for up to 12 children under the age of 11 when their parents are faced with emergencies such as a health crisis, unsafe housing or homelessness, family violence, lack of utilities, legal crisis, or overwhelming parental stress and have no other alternate care for their children.

Our mission is to ensure children are safe and receive the care they deserve when their families are in a crisis and provide caregivers with the appropriate resources, they need to support them to mitigate the crisis and build resiliency.

The Opportunity:

Kids Kottage Foundation is recruiting a part-time Volunteer Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for supporting group and individual volunteers to ensure positive and engaging volunteer experiences. This role is crucial to enhancing Kids Kottage Foundation’s programs and ensuring volunteers are aligned with the organization’s mission and values. Other responsibilities include volunteer recruitment, orientation, project planning, implementation and supervision of volunteer activities.

The ideal candidate is a clear and compassionate communicator, both verbal and written, who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively in a dynamic environment. They should be flexible, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Recruits, screens, interviews, and trains new volunteers.
  • Provides ongoing training, support, and supervision for existing volunteers to ensure they are well-prepared and confident in their roles.
  • Matches volunteers with meaningful opportunities that align with their strengths and the needs of the organization.
  • Coordinates with group volunteers based on their interests and skills; schedules and supervises group volunteer activities
  • Conducts regular check-ins with volunteers and is responsible for developing volunteer appreciation/ recognition initiatives.
  • Conducts regular volunteer orientation sessions and develops training materials to support volunteer success and compliance with childcare standards.
  • Serves as the key point of contact between volunteers and the Foundation.
  • Ensures adherence to volunteer policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records of volunteer hours and activities according to established protocols.
  • Maintains appropriate professional boundaries while working with infants, children, caregivers, volunteers, stakeholders, and donors, ensuring the safety and well-being of all parties.
  • Upholds a child-centered philosophy in all actions and maintains a reputation for professionalism and dedication to the mission.


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in volunteer management or a related field.
  • Experience in working with and supervising volunteers in a non-profit environment.
  • Has a valid Class 5 driver’s license and driving abstract.
  • Provides and maintains current clear Child Intervention Record Check and Police Criminal Record check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Alignment with Kids Kottage Foundations’ core values and mission.
  • Proven experience working with volunteers or coordinating community activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster trust, listen attentively, and respond appropriately.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), Connecteam and comfortable using volunteer management software or databases.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, personalities, and competing priorities under pressure.
  • Highly self-motivated and dependable; able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible schedule with availability for occasional evenings and weekends.

Position Details:


  • This is a part-time position (20-30 hours per week).
  • This position is based out of Kids Kottage Foundation Administration Office with allowance for hybrid working model, combining remote work with on-site responsibilities as needed.
  • On-site availability is required to facilitate volunteer training and activities along with occasional evening and weekend hours to support volunteer-led activities and events that benefit the children and families served by Kids Kottage Foundation.


Salary Range:

$22-$25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
