Job Description

Welding Engineer – Automotive Manufacturing

We are seeking an experienced Welding/Joining Engineer to support advanced automotive manufacturing processes in a fast-paced production environment. This critical role involves the development, validation, and continuous improvement of welding, fastening, and adhesive bonding methods essential for vehicle assembly.

As a Joining Engineer, you will collaborate with product design, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to ensure the structural integrity and durability of joined components across various body-in-white (BIW) and chassis structures. Your expertise will directly influence vehicle safety, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement joining technologies such as resistance spot welding, MIG welding, MAG welding, laser welding, and adhesive bonding for high-strength steel and aluminum components.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and manufacturing teams to optimize joint design and ensure manufacturability.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for joining-related issues on the production line.
  • Support the launch of new vehicle programs by validating joining processes and equipment.
  • Specify and approve joining equipment, robotic systems, and quality inspection tools.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and quality requirements.
  • Analyze data using process monitoring systems and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support cross-functional teams in applying DFMEA, PFMEA, and control plans for joining processes.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing, ideally in body assembly or BIW environments.
  • Strong knowledge of welding metallurgy, heat-affected zones (HAZ), and joint performance testing.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, robotic systems, and production tooling.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in welding inspection or welding engineering (e.g., AWS CWI, AWS CWS).
  • Hands-on experience with robotic programming and joining automation.
  • Knowledge of BOSCH weld timers is essential.
  • Experience with Henrob joining systems is a plus.
