Job DescriptionAs a Class 1 Local Pick-up & Delivery Driver, you will be responsible for:
- Completing local deliveries and pick-ups within Red Deer and the surrounding area in a timely and efficient manner
- Conducting thorough pre and post-trip inspections of the assigned vehicle to ensure safety and compliance with DOT regulations
- Performing routine maintenance checks and reporting any vehicle issues to the maintenance department
- Accurately loading and unloading freight, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo
- Operating material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, when necessary
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date logs of driving hours, mileage, and delivery records
- Assisting with dock work, including sorting, labeling, and organizing shipments
- Providing excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients and addressing any concerns or special requests
- Adhering to all company policies, safety procedures, and traffic laws
- Maintaining a clean and organized vehicle interior and exterior
- Collaborating with dispatch and other team members to optimize routes and delivery schedules
- Participating in ongoing safety training and professional development programs
- Demonstrating flexibility in availability to accommodate occasional schedule changes or additional shifts as required
A normal work week will be Monday to Friday; however, some flexibility in availability will occasionally be required to meet business needs and customer expectations.
QualificationsQualifications:
- Valid Class 1 license with a clean driving record
- Minimum of 1 year of Class 1 driving experience
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Reliable and dependable with excellent time management skills
- TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) certification
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) certification
- Forklift certification (preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Proficiency in using GPS navigation systems and mobile devices
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle inspections
- Flexibility to work occasional overtime or weekends as needed
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to provide a criminal record check, driver's abstract, and 2 work-related references
