THE ROLE

CANA’s Estimators play a crucial role in the company’s successful development and execution of construction projects. Estimators support both the preconstruction and construction departments by preparing and issuing tender packages, developing estimates for all stages of a project, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date cost databases. The Estimator reports to the Chief Estimator.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing project and estimate requirements, reviewing project scopes of work, establishing a plan for developing the estimate, and identifying subcontractor scope packages
  • Reviewing plans and specifications to perform takeoffs and determine material, equipment and labour requirements and pricing
  • Preparing tender packages (including all required tender forms, schedules and attachments), obtaining all approvals, insurance and bonding submittal requirements
  • Issuing tender package and coordinating the receipt of subcontractor bids, assessing subcontractor bids for accuracy 
  • Maintain confidential records and files, and ensure they are up-to-date and accurate, and performing bid levelling for accurate cost comparison
  • Recommending cost solutions and identifying potential risks, opportunity, and solutions
  • Developing and maintain lasting relationships with local trades, subcontractors, engineers, architects and owners

  • WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3 or more years’ experience estimating industrial, commercial and institutional buildings
  • Diploma, degree or equivalent experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management (or a related field)
  • A strong understanding and technical foundation of various building types, traditional subcontractor work scopes, construction systems and methods, construction specifications, building codes and requirements, construction tendering practices and contract types
  • Relationship oriented individual with focus on both internal and external customer needs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 software including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • A working knowledge of Planswift; experience with Microsoft Project and/or Revizto are considered an asset
